Had to read this book for a Medical Sociology course. I thought the title was a bit odd, but when I started reading the story of this one family that the author follows -- I couldn't put it down. I wanted to know what happened to these people. Their story could be the story of ANY family. It is not a happy story, but it is necessary to show how some people struggle to get adequate health care. For those who have super health care plans and no problem paying their co-pays or have never had a problem finding a doctor -- this is a book you should read. Just like many people are one paycheck away from being homeless, that also means being one paycheck away from having health insurance. It shows how the US health care system has contributed to many disparities in health.

really enjoyed reading this book for class! it is eye opening and really shows us how much trouble the poor endure related to health care and it shows that it isnt as easy as we may think with their resources. also shows you how much money is spent fighting fires that could have been fought at much lower costs with preventative care - which they lack access to and education about! great book!

Abraham presents facts and statistics of poor African Americans through the story of four generations in a poor Chicago family as they go through life navigating the health care system. The story is presented from a very fact based point of view. It includes the trials of Mrs. Jackson, the grandmother; Tommy, the son; Jackie, the caretaker and Tommy's daughter; Robert Banes, Jackie's husband; and their three children.Abraham presents the trouble deciding which jobs to take and how it will affect the overall family income when many jobs don't provide insurance. Statistics are presented on lack of family education about programs available for programs that would have not added income or taken away assistance they were already receiving.This book took into account the physician's assigned to the case when the patient is admitted without a primary physician, multiple residents and having to explain issues multiple times. Residents and physicians do not always look at the overall picture but the latest issue. Even the lack of physicians discussing do not resuscitate orders with the family when Mrs. Jackson is close to death was brought to light.I would like to ask the author what happened after the grandmother died and Robert received his transplant. How did the loss of SSI change their status and the outcome of their healthcare and financial status? Overall I give this book a 4 (very good). I agree with the authors position and policies set forth to help the poor are not working and need some serious revamping. I only rate it a four because of the tediousness of the information make it a hard to get through. This is a great read for those who want to do public policy dealing with healthcare reform and anyone interested in the plight of the poor having to negotiate the current system.

This is a good book for all 'Obama Care Bashers' to read and be able to understand why America needs health care reform. We could save a lot of money if we could prevent problems rather than attempt to treat problems after it's too late.

Needed for school delivered on time

I had to read this book for a class I'm taking. I understand that this is a type of story that needs to be told to understand the problems with the poor and health care. My problem is that the writing is horrible. The author jumps from story to story. Characters were either over explained or mentioned then vanished.

This book is a good read, and really points out the inequities that there are in families acquiring much needed health care in the United States. I recommend this book! This book will make you mad about what happens to people and the struggles that they face when just trying to get health care for their families. It also shows how people with few resources can be creative in finding ways to get healthcare. This book is well written and informative.

The book was for my sister but I began reading some of it. I didn't finish but they book sounded interesting, The story is sad but true fro a lot of people.

This is really a great book. I had an idea that a soldier goes through grueling training to become a Navy SEAL. But I was wrong in thinking that soldiers only go through intense sessions of physical training. This book proved me wrong. I found that that they do not get trained only for peak physical fitness, but they also get trained for peak mental fitness. Reading about their training, I got goosebumps. I hope that I can include at least a small percentage of their training in my daily routine.

Not worth the money. Horribly written. Hard to read with bad flow. Presented like a research paper. All information can be found by reading any other books by real SEALs or even basic research online. Reviews have similar typos and language so i question their validity. Do not buy.

Needed this book for a research in Psychology it's a good thing I got it for a reasonable price.The Navy Seals training seems really rigorous. Truly only does tough enough to surpass the challenge will come out. I would have a hard time if I were in their shoes. Swimming at least 500 years within 12:30 minutes? How is that even possible? These men truly are heroes. I think the training won't work as sufficient as it will in real life, in a real camp. I think the real struggle of what makes Navy Seals themselves is the whole package of the camp but nevertheless this is a great exercise to do and to use. It was a great read, lots of definitions and explanations.

This book has lots of information about Navy Seal. I wanted to learn about the rigors of the training and the type of individuals and mindset that it takes to be admitted to this elite group. I was pleasantly surprised by the book in that it focused on the mindset that is fortified through the physical training. I felt after reading the book that I really understood the attitude and determination and focus that one needs to have. Excellent.

Got a clearer picture now on the extreme physical, emotional and mental training of a Navy Seal after reading this book.The rigorous phases of their training was one of a kind.Only the bravest can passed through such test.This book has a brilliant content and was discussed in an educational manner.It's very concise in my opinion! Well recommended!

This is an educational read. I was perusing through the list of available Kindle reads and I was so curious to see how the Seals work and how they are made. This book definitely made it a possibility to know and acknowledge how difficult it is to get to where they are. The dedication and strength they must have is superior.The physical and cardio exercises also in this book motivated me to be more active. Definitely an inspiring read!

Who does not want to be part of the Navy Seals? With their discipline and strategic minds, they were able to capture even the most horrendous criminals. However, I believe that not everyone can really follow the discipline that the Navy Seal have. For instance, not everyone have the same determination and dedication with those in the Navy Seal. Also, being part of the Navy Seal needs a different kind of determination and self-discipline than most of the people. Nonetheless, this is still a good read and I like reading it.

I am amazed to know how the Navy SEALs work. Their training and self-discipline inspired me to have the same level of self-control! This book is a great help to understand how they work and how you can imitate their good habits and benefit from it. I like how this book explained how these military men trained their mind and body to adjust to their mission. I will definitely recommend this to my friends and family!

I have read a lot about the shenanigans played with funds such as GLD and SLV, and I too prefer CEF and PSLV. I have a little more confidence in the system with these funds. I am willing to hold these longer term. The advantage is that I can buy more with a mouse click, and I can liquidate with another. I have no storage costs. It's fair to argue, perhaps, that I'm not investing for the long term, but so far I am.I also wish that he had spent a chapter on buying stock in gold miners or even more time on the miners ETFs such as GDX and GDXJ. I also think a section on Silver Wheaton would have been worthwhile. I sat down to read this book and literally did not get up out of the chair until I finished it, two hours later. It is a very straight forward, no fluff, easily understandable, bare bones explanation of the importance of buying precious metals, and how to do so in the most risk-free way possible, i.e. scams to avoid, best places to buy, premium spread to consider, where to store, etc., with a short explanation of precious metals investing in the US and why it is a smart move to do so.If you are looking for lots of detailed history, with respect to US Money practices and how that affects precious metals rise and fall in price, I would suggest Rich Dad's Guide to Investing in Gold and Silver: Protecting Your Financial Future, which goes into great detail about monetary policy, with lots of charts. I have read both and both are excellent, but if you are a newbie, start with Stack Silver, Get Gold.Just as the description states, you will be able to set up an account and start purchasing with confidence, immediately after reading the book. I very highly encourage you to buy this book if, like I was, you are at a loss as to how even to begin to determine a safe means of buying precious metals.

In life, the love of Christ, when we truly understand it, when personally experience it, compels us. It won't allow us to quit." I know this to be true from personal experience. Please do yourself a favor and read this great book. I was privileged to be part of the launch team and I ordered a copy for some friends who are going through the challenges of Parkinson's Disease and I believe it will give them the encouragement they need. I will also be using it and the video resources for ministry in the local county jail that I minister at. #DontGiveUp

I have been reading Pastor Kyle Idleman’s books for quite a while now. From his very first book, Not a Fan, to this most recent book, Don’t Give Up. I love his down to earth, witty writing style and Biblical insight into topics that are relevant to anyone. Don’t Give Up does not disappoint, and it has encouraged me to keep pressing on, no matter the circumstance. I would recommend this book to anyone not just because of my familiarity with the author’s writings, but also because everyone needs to hear this message. Don’t Give Up on your marriage, your kids, your family, your situation. There is hope.

What an encouraging call to action! Kyle Idleman has, once again, written just what I needed in this stage of my walk with Christ. Wherever you are in that journey, whatever obstacles/challenges you face, this book is one to help you keep on going. I have already used portions of this book not only for my own encouragement, but to encourage others who are facing life's challenges. The notion that WE are the "joy set before" Christ which enabled Him to endure the cross is something to remember and to fuel us to keep going! I cannot recommend this book highly enough.  2010 has seen some great comic artists with their art books getting published. There's Alex Ross, Joe Quesada, Adam Hughes and now Jim Lee. What a fantastic year!Jim Lee's Icons is a bargain for the price. It's hardcover with 296 pages of amazing artwork printed on good paper. Just one look at the cover and you can tell that it's really good. Publisher Titan Books has done a very good job with the printing and construction.The amount of work featured is stunning.Right from page 1, it's a non-stop flow of beautiful artwork featuring the superheroes of DC Comics and WildStorm -- Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, etc. There are sketches, inks, layouts and full coloured illustrations. Many are printed at full page size, some across two pages, showing off all the intricate line work, grain left by the pencil hatches, details in the characters and background. You won't see any work from his days at Marvel though.I spent a while on each page marveling at the quality of work, thinking about his dedication to comics. It's really inspiring.You probably won't get as many page-pausing moments with other art books in 2010.Highly recommended.(There are more pictures of the book on my blog. This book highlights many of the more compelling characters and designs by the legendary Jim Lee. Great pencil, ink and fully rendered color pieces. Interesting background data and vignettes. What I like most about this book is the level of detailed displayed in Lee's work. There is much to see in this book. It's a great reference and an awesome, inspired collection of comic art pieces. Love comics and graphic novels? Love and appreciate fine details and awesome artwork? Think JIm Lee is a rock star in the world of comics? Then this is a book to get!

Jim Lee, one of the few names in the comic book industry whose signature artworks have made him a household name even outside of comics. The book displays many of his works on Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman and many cover assignments. The images, many of which are fully-blasted on splash and spread pages are things of wonder. The details and eloquence in constructing his line are incredibly featured. It seems that Jim knows exactly where each line will go and how to do it in one take. Of course, being published in 2010 means that many of his recent works miss out to be featured here. Perhaps they will churn our Icons II. And despite being a DC top man now, I and the rest of comic book fandom would not mind at all if a simliar collections from Marvel, especially Lee's X-Men works can be turned into a great collection like this. Fingers crossed.

I am brand new to the comic scene, but not to comic heroes and characters. After picking up Batman: Hush, I fell in love with the artwork. I mean literally head-over-heels in love! Googling the artist responsible, Jim Lee, I came across this book. I am so very happy I bought it! I wasn't expecting much more than a few pretty pictures and maybe an introduction. I got that and a lot more! A full introduction, notes and/or thoughts on every image, comparison shots of Jim's sketches for staues and figures along with photos of the final product, and even brainstorming sketches compared to the final pieces. My absolute favorite part of this book is the page with two panels of Superman and Batman...along with some snarky comments from Jim ("This image is so wrong on oh so many levels..."). I do wish it included other art of Jim's, especially from his time on the X-Men series, but I do understand why it wasn't included. Maybe that could be something for another artbook like this one (my own wishful thinking).Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to oggle and drool over this book again...

Here's why it gets a four star instead of a five star, HUGE CHUNKS of his life is not represented through his work in marvel, his development process and his own thoughts on his career--compared to todd macfarlane's book, there's not as much for a teenager to relate to except as a figure of aspiration. That said, this is a good artbook, I just hoped there would be more of jim lee's personality in it.

Not a bad product. I love Jim Lee's artwork, but if you were looking for some of his early works or even something from his X-Men days - this is not the product for you. His artwork and his sketches are incredible, but the main focus is on Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman and some of his earlier Wildstorm projects. All-in-all, if you like Jim Lee's artwork then you should pick this piece up.

Like my title suggests: t is meant for Mexicans and people that completely know the Mexican idioms and culture, so if you are not that versed in Mexican lingo, you won't enjoy this. One more thing: This is NOT for Spanish language learners. This is for native Spanish speakers and mostly like I said before: Mexicans. Very disappointing.Spanish: Este libro es mayormente para Mexicanos y personas que hablan el argot Mexicano y conocen la cultura Mexicana intimamente. Los demas no lo podran hacer. Los crucigramas no son los tradicionales o como se pinta en la portada. Este libro es una total decepcion.
