I purchased Delphi 5, and also the Developers Guide - but found it difficult to actually program in Delphi. I have a very strong programming background in procedural languages, but not in C or C++ or any other OO paradigm, and the Delphi manual and Delphi 5 Developers guide are far too advanced for beginners. This book was very easy for me to understand, and although I think that the subject matter simply cannot be mastered in 21 days this was the only book that was able to explain many of the reasons why (and how) you would use the different VCL components. Although there are many cases where more complex examples would have helped, I think that it was appropriate for the author to ignore them. This is obviously a beginners book. I would have preffered some more details on some of the more "odd" language features such as the typecasting, the use of "AS" and "IS", peculiarities of creating classes, etc, as well as some more info on the Object Pascal language and some programing conventions that may help to reduce coding errors - the syntax is particularly odd in its use of semi-colons, a fact that Borland admits in its own documentation as one of the prime reasons for intorduction of program 'bugs'.One of the nice features of the book is the end of chapter tutorials. I did them and found the they did re-inforce the chapters, and also provided additional stimulus. You are encouraged to use the on-line help, and it does help. There is no way to progrm in Delphi without it. In order to really follow along you must interact with the software.The book does not come with a CD, you must download sample code from the Internet, which is a bit of a bother.In summary a very good book. The examples and text work for Delphi 5 as well as Delphi 4. I think that any beginning Delphi programmer should have this plus an advanced book, and they should be ready to take on most projects.

I've programmed in C, C++, C#, Java, and quite extensively in Visual Basic. I wanted to learn Delphi to use a RAD environment to create native Win32 apps. But I could never get the hang of Object Pascal or the Delphi IDE from the online docs. I just learn better from textbooks. I needed something to help me get the ball rolling, from a Delphi novice point of view. This book filled that role nicely.Armed with a copy of Delphi 6, I was able to get through 99% of the examples, which are concise and well documented. And no, I don't think anyone finishes a book like this in 21 Days. It took me about 8 months, but I went slow and studied sections until I was comfortable with them.After finishing this book, I was able to use Turbo Delphi to create several apps. And I am currently using Delphi to create a large database-driven program that my division of my company has been asking for. Not bad, considering that a year ago I didn't know how to do anything in Delphi.

I purchased this book, without having any background in programming in any computer language, except a small amount of Basic & HTML, hoping for fast results. The truth is that although the book is comprehensive and user friendly, it relys heavily on a pre existing knowledge of the subject matter and is really NOT for the absolute beginner. My only other observation would be the constant "I'll cover that part later" aspect of the text, which is very frustrating, and makes the reader want to skip ahead to consolidate learning. I would certainly recommend this book, but only as an addition to the library of someone who knew a great deal about Delphi first, without which 21 days is optomistic at best!

I am using this book to teach a brother of mine how to program. I have been unpleasantly surprised at many omisions and some things missing which are just plain common sense. For example the book doesn't highlight, scripts or differentiate in any matter many things such as when telling the user "change the name property". It would help if "name" was in a different typeset. This also applies to other properties.Chapter 3, Classes, is not intuitive for an absolute beginner and could be left for a much later date in the 21 days plan.If you, or the person you are planning to buy the book' already knows programming and just want to learn Delphi this is ok, however for absolute beginner I find this book to be very poor.

I used this book as my introduction to Delphi and found it useful, but less than ideal.The early chapters of the book gave a good introduction to the basics of Delphi programming, and in particular the many tricks which Delphi has to make programming easier.If all you intend to do is produce a program to present databases in a particular way this book will probably meet your needs fine.My reservations relate to the presentation of information about the language itself. The explanation of the various features of classes seemed sketchy, and left me unsure of when I should use what sort of features. I had hoped that the chapter on "Advanced programming techniques" would help, but this focused on elements which "polish" a programme, but don't bridge the gap to a finished application of any real complexity.I didn't bother finishing the last few chapters on matters such as producing components and DLLs as I felt I needed to learn more about classes, properties and datastreams before I would benefit.

My 2 year old son is obsessed with Spiderman but I find most of the superhero books and shows on TV too old for him. This book is perfect! The story is easy enough for him to follow and he has now memorized some of the lines so he recites the book as I read it. I also appreciate that the story is non-violent (just a little mention of sand throwing and pushing but not bad) as can be an issue with other superhero stories. I'm going to look into buying more of these types of books.

My little Spidey LOVES this book. He's memorized it and now insists on "reading" this to Mommy. It's cute, quick, easy enough for my 3 year old to pay attention to the whole thing. I like that at one point it goes over directions "over, around' through" with how the villains interact with the sandbox, a cute way to teach prepositions.

Funny - as I finished reading this beautiful book for the first time, one of my old favorite songs (by Hal David/Burt Bacharach) as a child growing up in the 60's started playing in my head...What the world needs now is love sweet love,It's the only thing that there's just too little of.What the world needs now is love sweet love,No not just for some but for everyone!The simplicity of the words husband and husband team Justin Richardson and Peter Parnell have used to tell the true story of a couple of male chinstrap penguins (Roy and Silo) at New York's Central Park Zoo, who had paired off as a couple and were given an extra fertilized egg to hatch on their way to becoming a family unlike any of the zoo's other animal families (but a family nonetheless!), makes this book a perfect way to begin naturally introducing the concepts of acceptance and inclusion to youngsters. The soft illustrations by Henry Cole are such a nice complement to the story - I'm really looking forward to sharing this special book with our four grandchildren, who will most certainly be meeting many families of varying composition during their lifetimes! The way baby Tango and his dads are welcomed by the children coming to see them after his birth is a good "footprint in the sand" to leave on a child's growing sense of the world around them.I'm a dozen years late in my personal discovery of the book, so I missed the brouhaha surrounding its 2005 publication, having appeared on the American Library Association's Office for Intellectual Freedom's "Top Ten Most Challenged Book List" from 2006-2010, reappearing in 2012, and - sadly - again as late as 2014. This is such a gentle book, and to imagine literature that celebrates the love and devotion of parents would ever appear on such a list is disheartening. This is a sweet book that talks of the desire to share a home and a family (I'll type the text in the comment section below for parents/grandparents to read for themselves if they're on the fence about the book.) The younger of my two sons is gay, has been in a committed and happy relationship with his partner for seven years, and should they eventually marry and decide to begin a family, it would be so painful to the heart of this mother to see his family shunned or ridiculed. I hope the authors have not experienced it since the birth of their own daughter, little Gemma, whom I suppose is about 8 years old now and feeling very loved and secure.Children are drawn to books about animals, there aren't too many animals cuter or funnier than penguins, and if you're a parent or grandparent who's searching for ways to begin opening your child's mind to the concept of the different types of families they'll encounter (or may be a part of!) along life's journey, as I myself have been, I think "And Tango Makes Three" is a nice place to start.

I am so happy to have finally purchased this book! As an educator, I am excited to share this book with my students during "Banned Book Week" as I know that they will ask the reason why this book is banned from so many different schools and libraries. It's an added bonus that Neil Patrick Harris narrates the audiobook.

Got this for my goddaughter for her Christmas. I babysat her and she played dolls with me and insisted that the house had to "have a mommy and a daddy and a boy and a girl" (she's 4), so I got this so she could learn about all different types of families and what families can look like. She loved it because of the penguins and the story is just the cutest. Her mom was thrilled too.

When I bought this book I had read it before. I loved the story I loved the cute penguins but I also loved how this book taught love and acceptance. At first I was a little worried to show it to my administrators at work (I work at a preschool) but they all LOVED it and were raving about it! I had the book for a few short weeks. It was the most loved book of the classroom. All the kids loved tango, so much so when they see a penguin it's not a penguin it's tango. The kids are to young to understand the part of tango having two daddies. But they do know that the daddies love tango. This book teaches them at a young age that love is love and Roy and silo love tango, and that's all that matters. I'm ashamed to say the book has since been lost, I had it in a special spot and when I returned from vacation it had vanished. No where to be found. I have a coworker who is religious and known for taking books with themes he doesn't believe in. Sad thing is I bought this book with my own money.It's a lovely look and I hope you and your children can enjoy this book together.

My son and me love to read this book, the illustrations are very cute too. I really like that it is a true story and that it depicts a lot of our beloved central park zoo.

Oh how I want to love this book. It’s such a cute story & the artwork is great. I had a hard time deciding to give it 3 or 4 stars. It’s just so wordy! Some stuff needs to be edited out, some sentences need to be turned into 2 instead of one & a maybe a couple commas. I don’t think anyone read it out loud prior to printing. My 3 year old loves the book though, so we will keep it in our library for now. I’m usually not picky with the writing but this one drives me nuts.

I purchased this book for a friend whose granddaughter didn't want to brush her hair or let anyone else do it. We loved the book and hoped that the four year old would also. As it turns out, she would prefer to let mice build nests in her hair to brushing it, but the book is adorable (like my friends granddaughter).

This is a very nice book!! Excellent.. Brand New shape and the story was very clever and entertaining!! My 7 Year old really likes the story line and Mommy does too!! Highly recommend for anyone!! Teachers would also love this book!! I was thinking of sending it with my Daughter for her Teacher, to read at school.. but, i don't want to lose it!! I even wrote my Daughter's name on the front page to make sure no one takes it!! Very nicely illustrated and bright colorful pages!! We have read it a few times already and am looking forward to reading it again!! The story line does not get boring, and i could read it to my Daughter over and over again!! It is a smart, silly, interesting book!! I am going to look for other books from the same Author!!!

My 4-year old niece used to create hell every morning before school because she didn’t want her hair combed. Got this for her and she initially was a little upset (I don’t think I delivered the message very subtly) but she’s ended up loving the book - and she’s more amenable to getting her hair combed!

This book is cute with fun illustration. I purchased it for my 6yo because she hates brushing her hair but after we read this book once she never read it again. It has been sitting in a box for a month now and hasn't been touched again. I'm not sure if she outgrew these kind of picture books or this one didn't interest her enough but sort of disappointed it didn't even get ONE re-read from her.

I bought this for my granddaughter Her hair has at times been compared to a rats nest.Yes she doesn't like it brushed. Anyway she loved it I loved it, adorable illustrationsgreat little Fun story.

I liked the illustrations and the general story. I didn’t like the random tangents that break away from the story for a number of sentences. It went right over my kid’s head and made a cute story long. I just skip the random sentences so it’s short enough to hold my four year olds attention.

This is a cute story and illustrations. My daughter loves the book and likes to talk about what the mice does beyond what's in the book. Keeps her full attention and she knows if you miss/skip sections.
