My 2 year old son is obsessed with Spiderman but I find most of the superhero books and shows on TV too old for him. This book is perfect! The story is easy enough for him to follow and he has now memorized some of the lines so he recites the book as I read it. I also appreciate that the story is non-violent (just a little mention of sand throwing and pushing but not bad) as can be an issue with other superhero stories. I'm going to look into buying more of these types of books.

My little Spidey LOVES this book. He's memorized it and now insists on "reading" this to Mommy. It's cute, quick, easy enough for my 3 year old to pay attention to the whole thing. I like that at one point it goes over directions "over, around' through" with how the villains interact with the sandbox, a cute way to teach prepositions.

My son loves marvel super hero’s so when I can incorporate that into reading everyday that’s amazing

Funny - as I finished reading this beautiful book for the first time, one of my old favorite songs (by Hal David/Burt Bacharach) as a child growing up in the 60's started playing in my head...What the world needs now is love sweet love,It's the only thing that there's just too little of.What the world needs now is love sweet love,No not just for some but for everyone!The simplicity of the words husband and husband team Justin Richardson and Peter Parnell have used to tell the true story of a couple of male chinstrap penguins (Roy and Silo) at New York's Central Park Zoo, who had paired off as a couple and were given an extra fertilized egg to hatch on their way to becoming a family unlike any of the zoo's other animal families (but a family nonetheless!), makes this book a perfect way to begin naturally introducing the concepts of acceptance and inclusion to youngsters. The soft illustrations by Henry Cole are such a nice complement to the story - I'm really looking forward to sharing this special book with our four grandchildren, who will most certainly be meeting many families of varying composition during their lifetimes! The way baby Tango and his dads are welcomed by the children coming to see them after his birth is a good "footprint in the sand" to leave on a child's growing sense of the world around them.I'm a dozen years late in my personal discovery of the book, so I missed the brouhaha surrounding its 2005 publication, having appeared on the American Library Association's Office for Intellectual Freedom's "Top Ten Most Challenged Book List" from 2006-2010, reappearing in 2012, and - sadly - again as late as 2014. This is such a gentle book, and to imagine literature that celebrates the love and devotion of parents would ever appear on such a list is disheartening. This is a sweet book that talks of the desire to share a home and a family (I'll type the text in the comment section below for parents/grandparents to read for themselves if they're on the fence about the book.) The younger of my two sons is gay, has been in a committed and happy relationship with his partner for seven years, and should they eventually marry and decide to begin a family, it would be so painful to the heart of this mother to see his family shunned or ridiculed. I hope the authors have not experienced it since the birth of their own daughter, little Gemma, whom I suppose is about 8 years old now and feeling very loved and secure.Children are drawn to books about animals, there aren't too many animals cuter or funnier than penguins, and if you're a parent or grandparent who's searching for ways to begin opening your child's mind to the concept of the different types of families they'll encounter (or may be a part of!) along life's journey, as I myself have been, I think "And Tango Makes Three" is a nice place to start.

I am so happy to have finally purchased this book! As an educator, I am excited to share this book with my students during "Banned Book Week" as I know that they will ask the reason why this book is banned from so many different schools and libraries. It's an added bonus that Neil Patrick Harris narrates the audiobook.

Got this for my goddaughter for her Christmas. I babysat her and she played dolls with me and insisted that the house had to "have a mommy and a daddy and a boy and a girl" (she's 4), so I got this so she could learn about all different types of families and what families can look like. She loved it because of the penguins and the story is just the cutest. Her mom was thrilled too.

When I bought this book I had read it before. I loved the story I loved the cute penguins but I also loved how this book taught love and acceptance. At first I was a little worried to show it to my administrators at work (I work at a preschool) but they all LOVED it and were raving about it! I had the book for a few short weeks. It was the most loved book of the classroom. All the kids loved tango, so much so when they see a penguin it's not a penguin it's tango. The kids are to young to understand the part of tango having two daddies. But they do know that the daddies love tango. This book teaches them at a young age that love is love and Roy and silo love tango, and that's all that matters. I'm ashamed to say the book has since been lost, I had it in a special spot and when I returned from vacation it had vanished. No where to be found. I have a coworker who is religious and known for taking books with themes he doesn't believe in. Sad thing is I bought this book with my own money.It's a lovely look and I hope you and your children can enjoy this book together.

Oh how I want to love this book. It’s such a cute story & the artwork is great. I had a hard time deciding to give it 3 or 4 stars. It’s just so wordy! Some stuff needs to be edited out, some sentences need to be turned into 2 instead of one & a maybe a couple commas. I don’t think anyone read it out loud prior to printing. My 3 year old loves the book though, so we will keep it in our library for now. I’m usually not picky with the writing but this one drives me nuts.

I purchased this book for a friend whose granddaughter didn't want to brush her hair or let anyone else do it. We loved the book and hoped that the four year old would also. As it turns out, she would prefer to let mice build nests in her hair to brushing it, but the book is adorable (like my friends granddaughter).

This is a very nice book!! Excellent.. Brand New shape and the story was very clever and entertaining!! My 7 Year old really likes the story line and Mommy does too!! Highly recommend for anyone!! Teachers would also love this book!! I was thinking of sending it with my Daughter for her Teacher, to read at school.. but, i don't want to lose it!! I even wrote my Daughter's name on the front page to make sure no one takes it!! Very nicely illustrated and bright colorful pages!! We have read it a few times already and am looking forward to reading it again!! The story line does not get boring, and i could read it to my Daughter over and over again!! It is a smart, silly, interesting book!! I am going to look for other books from the same Author!!!

My 4-year old niece used to create hell every morning before school because she didn’t want her hair combed. Got this for her and she initially was a little upset (I don’t think I delivered the message very subtly) but she’s ended up loving the book - and she’s more amenable to getting her hair combed!

This book is cute with fun illustration. I purchased it for my 6yo because she hates brushing her hair but after we read this book once she never read it again. It has been sitting in a box for a month now and hasn't been touched again. I'm not sure if she outgrew these kind of picture books or this one didn't interest her enough but sort of disappointed it didn't even get ONE re-read from her.

I bought this for my granddaughter Her hair has at times been compared to a rats nest.Yes she doesn't like it brushed. Anyway she loved it I loved it, adorable illustrationsgreat little Fun story.

I liked the illustrations and the general story. I didn’t like the random tangents that break away from the story for a number of sentences. It went right over my kid’s head and made a cute story long. I just skip the random sentences so it’s short enough to hold my four year olds attention.

This is a cute story and illustrations. My daughter loves the book and likes to talk about what the mice does beyond what's in the book. Keeps her full attention and she knows if you miss/skip sections.

So, when I saw that a history book had been written about the real Tigress of Forli, I had to read it. I feared a dry history text, but the book didn't disappoint. It was lively and filled with details that brought Caterina alive, despite the fact that the author could only work with letters and historians of the time. Unlike a historical romance where you can invent details, this author actually had to find out what Caterina wore, what she wrote (to see what she was thinking), and what she reportedly did. Caterina made some powerful enemies, including Macchiavelli, so the historian had to sort through accounts both good and bad, and some that might have been slander.Beginning from her early years in Milan, to giddy days of parties and power in Rome, to her exile in Forli and the battles she fought to protect her family, the book is just nonstop excitement. Caterina has multiple husbands and many children, and experiences both tragedies and bouts of good fortune. She shows the spirit of the Sforza clan in her every action, but particularly when she is protecting her lands, her people, and her family. The book paints her as a flawed hero, someone who made mis-steps and mistakes, but overall, is someone to admire.

This is a story that holds the interest. The political schemes, wars, and assassinations of that era are covered in detail, often with the horror and suspense which medieval cruelty and duplicity invite. As a writer of talent, this author brings the characters to life with an abundance of details which one cannot find elsewhere. Moreover, her use of adjectives is masterful, so precise and evocative that I cannot refrain from complimenting the author on their use.This biographer has chosen a historical episode and a leading character of great interest. Caterina of Forli was certainly courageous and resourceful during the multitudinous and perilous changes of fortune which characterized the Italy of that time. She also proved as devious and unsparing as any of the male rulers, faced as she was by the many enemies of her family. Following the assassination of her beloved second husband, for instance, she destroyed the conspirators and even their families with great cruelty.She will be remembered forever, however, for her defiance of the Borgia pope and his ruthless son Cesare. The author triumphs in telling the story of the assault on the fortress at Forli and the capture of a woman unbowed by the fortunes of war. By contrast, the indifference of her elder sons to her imprisonment and suffering, their cupidity, their ambition for higher positions in the Church while making no effort to help her are both shocking and disgusting.You will not find a more complete recounting of these tragic events than in this history of a valiant woman fighting against all the hardships of medieval Italy. After her capture by the terrible Cesare Borgia, I had to pause often before continuing with this record of the indignities and suffering inflicted on this woman.I recommend this biography to anyone seeking history related in an interesting way.This biographer, moreover, provides an extra benefit by adding to the book a brief account of the career and death of Caterina's youngest son, the great warrior Giovanni dalle Bande Nere.

I have always loved and been fascinated by powerful women, both in history and in fiction. I'm especially fascinated by these sorts of women who lived in eras where their lives were highly circumscribed. As the saying goes "well behaved women seldom make history". It's a shame because history is filled with great women of strength, resilience and resourcefulness and their names need to be better known.To be honest, I actually came across the amazing and wily Catarina Sforza while watching Showtime's 'The Borgias' (my guilty Jeremy Irons pleasure). As I watched this powerful reddish-gold haired virago lift her skirts and taunt the army of Cesare Borgia by pointing at her genitals and telling him that she could make more sons (a story that was highly embellished by Machiavelli who was NOT a fan of hers), I thought, this woman's real story has GOT to be pretty darn interesting and fact actually pales in comparison to fiction. She was, even to her detractors, a remarkable woman who literally went toe to toe with the incredibly dangerous Borgia clan alone.Catarina Riario Sforza de Medici was in short, one hell of a woman. Elegant, cultured, literate, a fighter, a huntress, a tactician, a healer, a mother and a very beautiful and forceful woman. She often stood alone, fighting for her family's legacy and her right to exist in a Renaissance Italy which alliances shifted on the winds and death was a mere heartbeat away. She could also be very stubborn and make serious errors in judgment. Be that as it may, Catarina took control of her life in ways that were quite rare for that time period. Far from perfect, she was a woman determined to be in charge of her destiny.

While the special edition cover may not be as nice as Volo's Guide to Monsters, I cannot recommend this book enough. Xanathar pops in every now and then with some odd little question or comment related to the class or subject matter, which sometimes can be humorous, but not as insightful as Volo or Eliminster.For the player, it provides numerous classes we were first introduced to on the Unearthed Arcana. Every class gets at least one or two new options to add to what has already come out with the PHB. Backgrounds can be flushed out more with charts of why your character is the way he or she is, how they became that way, the major events of their lives, why you became the class you are and concepts like benefactors for rogues, adversaries for paladins, your warlock patron's attitude towards you, to wild shpaes druids should be able to take, and so many options. Admittedly some are reprinted from the Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide, but that's okay, the book doesn't change them and there is still a lot in hereFor a DM, aside from the backstory creator, which I think is great for making NPCs as well as PCs, there are ways to set up encounters, magical items, and charts for random encounters per level based and random encounters environment, from desert to arctic to coast to mountains to the Underdark. There is also ideas for downtime.For both the DM and player, there is a description of each set of artisan's tools, including the contents of each set and the uses they can have, like woodcarver's tools being used to make arrows, or smith's being able to tell the quality of a weapon. The back is filled with names for every race in the PHB, and every possible real world setting, from Central and South America to the Orient to Eurasia. While many of them were pulled from Princes of the Apocalypse, there are new ones added and it is also helpful because now I don't have to carry around a campaign book just for the spells.All in all, it is a rather useful source book that I highly recommend getting for any D&D group. If not this one, then the standard regular cover, but do get this book.

People seem to not understand the point of a review. You review the item, not the price.This book is BEAUTIFUL! Any collector would love having this tomb to ad to their library.The cover has a nice silky feel and a look that is sure to turn heads at the table.Also the little comments from Xanathar are great and more than just some extra flavor text if you put a little thought in.With that being said, 90 dollars is not a proper price for this item.. right now.Go to your local fantasy shops that host D&D merchandise and try to pick one up there.Got mine for $60, didn't mind spending the extra $10 because it IS a Limited Edition.But do not wait around, I called a few different stores before I found the one and they were Sold Out.

fantastic book, love the special edition... but you can get this for THE SAME PRICE as the normal one if you go to a local shop.
