Good book

As an avid collector of advertisements and literature on perfume, this is the first book I always recommend to fellow collectors. In the past ten or twelve years, many books were published to cater to the exploding popularity of perfume bottles as a collectors item. Christie Lefkowith's book stands out because of its focus on the ART of perfume bottles (hence the title), rather than their monetary value. Bottles are viewed in the cultural context of their time, with photographs of by far THE best quality I have ever seen in perfume books. I agree with the previous reviewer, though: too bad the book ends with the fifties. There should be a sequel.

Dorothy Stephens's memoir of the two years she spent living with her young family in pre-independence Kenya is deeply felt, sensitive and intelligent. Her language describing Kenya's land and people is both gorgeous and unsentimental. The reader feels drawn into every scene with her, experiencing the beauty and the strangeness she felt as she made the unsettled land her home. From the smallest things, like learning the Kenyan words for grocery staples, to the more complex, like learning to fit into the existing colonial system while maintaining her sense of all Kenyans' dignity, Stephens shows how an "ordinary" white American can have an extraordinary effect on her surroundings. Without flaunting their views in the face of the British, Stephens, her husband, and their three children make friends with the brave, educated Kenyans who will soon lead their country into independence. They do this even though the British prefer to treat Kenyans as servants and maintain the status quo, and resent Americans like the Stephens who have different ideas. The book offers a wonderful background to help understand the current unrest in Kenya. The book is in many ways Dorothy Stephens' love song, both to Kenya and to her daughter Kelly, the little blonde two-year-old whose hand she holds throughout much of the book. Kelly Stephens, encouraged to explore by her parents world views, died in the early 90s during a volcanic eruption in Indonesia. All proceeds from the sale of the book go to a foundation in Kelly Stephens' name which funds education for Indonesian school teachers.

As soon as I started reading Kwa Heri, Dorothy Stephen's book, I felt as if I was taken away to Kenya. Not only did her writing make me feel as if I was going on an adventure, but what an adventure. I can only hope to share this book with everyone I know, because I can't say enough about it, I just have to give them a copy of it.

I loved Dorothy Stephens' Kwa Heri Means Goodbye. It successfully transported me to another place and time, making me feel as if I myself had been to Kenya in the late 1950s. I also enjoyed it as her personal adventure, in which she was yanked from a comfortable, traditional life and whisked off to an exotic and potentially very dangerous place. With dry wit, she conveys her sense of dread about the trip, citing horror stories of the Mau Mau uprising and malaria, and describes a nerve-wracking flight across the ocean with hard-partying pilots. She introduces us to very memorable locales, characters, and wildlife--include safari ants and a wild monkey. A thoroughly informative and enjoyable read!

I love this bible, it's very classy with it's design and I like the book cover cloth feeling, and very durable hard cover and spine. The pages are very durable as well to prevent acidental small tears when flipping through which happen sometimes in my old bible.I like there is a large margin for note taking or anything else you want to put on the side. You can highlight very well without too much bleeding like most bibles. It has a very normal sized text and easy to read like any other book that I think sets it apart from other bibles that have small text. It also has a soft off white warm page colors that make it less harsh than reading from a stark white page but I also know some people perfer white. Overall it is everything I wanted for my bible and have no complaints.

I've had a few different bibles in the past but this one has my favorite design by far! I love the space provided on the sides of each page. There's plenty of room to write notes, thoughts, prayers, etc. The bible itself is also very pretty; I purchased the bible with the pink floral design and it is lovely. I'm very happy with this purchase and highly recommend it!

It has a fun a quality cover and the lines on the side allow 6ou to write about the verses without making the verses illegible when you go back and read the passage at a different time.

This is exactly what I was looking for in a journaling Bible!!!!!!!!It has a beautiful cove, lies flat ,and has nice thick lined pages for plenty of notesperfect for tees who want a more creative way of note taking!!would totally recommend

I love how nice the cover is! When journaling with pencil/colored pencil, I had to press a little hard which made it indent into other pages and when going over it with a marker it has ghosted onto the other side of the page a little bit! But I will continue to use it!

I really like this Bible. Print is easy for me to read and the cover seems to be very durable- plus it is a lovely pattern to look at and lightweight 😊

Love the cover and the journaling area.

One of the pages is a little too long and there could be more space to journal but other than that, it's perfect.
