Othello is a Moor, and there is a fruitful discussion to be had about whether that means he's North African or Sub-Saharan African or even about how the Elizabetheans viewed race as a category , but the text very clearly refers to him as a different race than the Venetians. Brabantio is baited by descriptions of the "black ram tupping your white ewe," and other characters describe his complexion as dark and his hair as densely curly. I teach ESL. We need graphic adaptions to help our students access challenging texts. Any edition that markets itself to schools has a responsibility to be truthful and accurate in its representation of the characters. The Manga version makes him a Nordic looking angel - again, not the same thing. The Saddleback version makes him red-haired and pale skinned - it's inaccurate and offensive.

I got this book for my 14 year old cousin to prepare her for the high school reading assignment on Othello. She was able to use this book to help grasp the story before reading the book required by the school. She got an A on her test so I have followed the practice of getting the graphic novel, on a Shakespeare play, first for her, then have her read the play in the full text format.

Everything this Goodwin guy writes is soooo clever and amazing and I can't put it down I just read it and and read it and read it and I think that if you like Shakespere and comic books than you can't anyone better than this othelo one. Theothers one is good to!

I found this book ore satisfying than the other ones in the series because this is all photos, not just drawings of tattoos. It is sort of depressing seeing this broken criminals; I hope someday they do interviews with these people. There is a good dvd documentary connected to the book series which I recommend as a supplement.

A departure from the Russian Criminal Tattoo Encyclopedia series, this book is filled with many actual tattoo photos and a section on identifying facial features commonly found amongst criminals. But you still have the signature common artwork found in the series.These seem to get a bit repetitive, but I enjoy this. Series and story behind the research, as well as the artwork. Check it out if your a fan, or interested in the stories behind the fringe and taboo practice in the gulag.

Been a huge fan of the original 3 books, so I had to buy this one as well. The book isn't shirt on photographs or descriptions but it has nearly no illustrations that made the original 3 so amazing. Overall 4 stars and would definitely buy the next addition.

The book is well written, one might say it reads itself. Moreover, after several months since I read the book, I can safely say it changed my mindset. I have changed the view of my peers, my superiors and myself. I have changed my approach to several aspects of my life (study, work, sports,...). I really love the fact, that author took care with providing lots of references to his claims.I would further recommend the second book by Mathew Syed Black box thinking. The overlap is very subtle, which is rare in the self-development literature (it's often pointless to read several books by the same author).In summary, it's fun and full of useful information.

It's hard to resist comparing this book to Malcolm Gladwell's The Outliers. In The Outliers Gladwell helped spread the fame of the work of Anders Ericsson, FSU expert on how people acquire expert intelligence. Indeed, the phrase "10,000 hours" is now so ubiquitous it has become a cliche, although people often forget that it refers not just to practice but to STRUCTURED practice.While The Outliers excels in its writing and infotainment value, Bounce seems more instructive. It's hard to finish Bounce and not feel like there is a lot more you could do if you just applied yourself. Syed mixes personal experience, anecdotes of others, and empirical data to hammer home the point that living with a "growth" mindset is richly rewarding.Syed does an excellent job of explaining how some people continue to reach new thresholds in their pursuits while many others plateau early. I often give this book as a gift to nieces, nephews, and friends' children who are entering college, telling them I wish I could have read (and believed) this book when I was their age.

I read a lot, a lot, and this is one of the most significant books I have read. Anyone striving for high performance, in any field, as well as anyone raising or teaching children should read this book. There are many psychological points, which anyone can develop, which lead to someone bouncing back from difficulty and doing well. With practise being so important to superior performance, you must have persistance or you won't get in the practice.Highly recommended. I've already given it as a gift and will be giving out more.

The talent myth pervades our thinking in various forms, e.g., musicians, leaders, etc. are "born--not made." While one should acknowledge the existence of those rare individuals will seemingly superhuman aptitudes, according to the author, most "experts" in whatever field reach the pinnacle through a combination of factors--factors within the reach of mere mortals! This is good news and awfully encouraging to anyone willing to obtain the proper tutelage and engage in "purposeful practice" over the long haul. This book lit a fire under me to develop a plan and "do the time" in purposeful practice in order to master the guitar. Woodshed, here I come!

Shares many of the same themes and material that Geoff Colvin presented in Talent is Overrated. I believe the author writes from a personal perspective having competed at table tennis. I loved how he drew parallels with other sports. In the end, the basic tenants of focused practice, supporting family members, access to great coaching, internal desire to succeed, willingness to commit to excellence...etc. are hard to trump in any endeavor of life.

I can't tell you the impact this book has had on giving me perspective on my own development and training as a tennis player. It has allowed me to see that the process wasn't as random as I had thought; that the hard work; delay of gratification and attention to detail allowed me to see things that other tennis players didn't simply because I employed 'purposeful practice' at every and all moments I was involved in the sport.This book goes into great detail about how a work ethic, allows ANYONE the opportunity to succeed by dispelling so many myths on why players, musicians, athletes, people in all sorts of industry become successful.Just loved his analysis referring to countless studies and real life examples of Earl and Tiger Woods, Mozart and his father, David Beckham and his work ethic. the wonders of the Polgar Sisters in chess.And the one common thread that one and all had to success?Read the book and find out for yourself. You won't be disappointed. And you might even find out something about yourself in the process.A wonderful read by a columnist for The Times (London); commentator for the BBC; a graduate of Oxford University and a two-time Olympian.

The St. John family is large family in which 5 of the 6 St. John siblings are involved in law enforcement. I love the family dynamic between the six St. John siblings and their parents (including their chief of police mother) and how they still get together for family dinners despite their busy schedules.Chole St. John and her K-9 partner Hank are part of a task force to help find Deputy US Marshall Blake MacCallum's kidnapped daughter. Their search for answers with the assistance of other members of law enforcement leads them both into danger, and Blake and Chloe don’t know who they can trust. Could there be a chance for romance for Chloe and Blake?This novel deals with difficult content (human trafficking) and portrays the horrors those women faced in a honest manner. It was evident that Lynette Eason had done impeccable research when writing this novel. Called to Protect focused on the themes of forgiveness and how God is always present in our lives. The St. John family's strong belief in God helped them face the difficult situations they encounter in their daily lives. As Blake MacCallum said in the novel,"Life is short and we need to grab on to the good times and let the bad ones fade away."I know readers will fall in love with the St. John family just like I did. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series when Brady St. John gets his own story!

If you love Blue Bloods, riveting suspense, and dealing with heavy current events with a faith element, you will love this series. This is the second book of Eason’s Blue Justice series and it was even better than the first, Oath of Honor!Called to Protect is not a light read as it deals with the heavy topic of human trafficking. However the author takes us right to the edge of the harsh realities of human trafficking without bringing it over the edge. It was a thoughtful and insightful read. I loved the humanness of the St. John family...they are relatable in their faith struggles. I love seeing their interactions and love for family.Chloe St John takes lead in this book with her German Shepherd K-9. She is my fav character so far. Strong and determined and yet, loving and devoted. I’m in awe of her and want to be her when I grow up :-) US Marshall Blake’s daughter is kidnapped and will die if he doesn’t kill a judge. They have to work together with their whole team to find her. As they uncover a human trafficking network, it’s a race against time to save his daughter, reduce others, and possibly find her cousin Penny.Riveting, inspiring suspense with a focus on a tough topic that needs addressing. Just don’t read the first chapter before bed, like I did! You won’t be able to sleep until you read more.Highly recommended. 5 Plus stars!

Throughput this novel,the plot threads continue to weave, intertwine and build into a tapestry of relationships, unveiled clues, and complex criminal activity. Tackling one of the greatest affronts to humanity--human slavery, is not an easy task. Ms. Eason has done a masterful job of writing about the complexities of sex slavery on a local level that effectively illustrates the evil practices surrounding the "industry" with sensitivity and grace. There are many organizations established to help, and it is my hope that folks will read Called to Protect and respond by supporting the efforts to combat human trafficking in some way.

I thoroughly enjoy Called to Protect. I had read the previous book in the series, but each book is a stand alone. The human trafficking the Chloe and Blake come up against has such a personal touch to both of them as well as everyone in the book.The traffic crash at the beginning and Chloe realized that one of the victims who was wearing her missing cousin's shirt, "Beth" was actually Blake's daughter Rachel that he hadn't told anyone that is missing set the scene for the beginning of a exciting story. You never know what to expect at times.I encourage you to read Called to Protect if you are Lynette Eason fan and if you haven't read her books yet give this one a try.

Chloe is a police detective with her K9 partner Hank, a large German Shepherd. Hank sniffs out hidden drugs and can track anyone. Blake is an old friend of her family and is a US Marshall. He’s guarding a judge who’s been threatened when Blake’s teenage daughter, Rachel, is kidnapped. The kidnappers tell Blake he has to murder the judge in order to get Rachel back. Chloe understands his grief since her cousin, Penny, went missing six months earlier. They’re both devastated and angry when it becomes clear that both girls may have been taken by human traffickers! This is another excellent book in this series, filled with intense suspense and romance. Will Blake and Chloe find Rachel in time and will their attraction last? Will they ever find Penny? Can they trust God to lead them in the right direction? I’ve loved both these books in the series and look forward to the next one!

What is there left to say about a Lynette Eason book. This one deserves every star you can give it. It is all about a subject that we sometimes don’t even want to think about...human trafficking and the evil involved. Two very likable and capable characters in Blake and Chloe. I also like that the main thrust of the story is on the search for the girls and romance is secondary. I believe I can safely say that Ms Eason in right up at the top of my list as a favorite author.
