Chaos Imagined: Literature, Art, Science by Martin Meisel is a masterful work that serves as both a history (of sorts) of the concept of chaos as well as detailed analyses of various texts to illustrate how perceptions were expressed and eventually changed.This is not a simple read but it is quite accessible to anyone who likely is interested in an interdisciplinary volume about chaos. It is not so much a difficult read as it is a broad read which invites readers to ponder what they have just read and to possibly (re)read the texts under discussion. This is a wonderful book to work through slowly with a blank journal at hand.The depth and breadth of Meisel's knowledge is impressive, providing excellent explanations of scientific material while also offering superb analyses of literary and philosophical texts. In doing so he manages to avoid excessive jargon (it cannot be completely avoided, some topics simply need their specialized vocabulary) but his explanations excel in the areas that require specialized terminology.Chaos underwent a significant change in how it is perceived in the 18th and 19th centuries, as Meisel illustrates remarkably. It went from disruptive and associated with evil or bad while order was its opposite, perceived as good and desirable. Chaos then became more closely associated with the freedom of potential, in no small part due to understanding that the world is more chaotic than it is ordered.I would hesitate to put this into the pop category of science-themed books that are so useful for the general public, but I do think it would be enjoyable to most who like those works. Because the author ranges over so many areas (literature, science, art, film, etc) there are many opportunities for a reader to find an interesting avenue into the topic, which makes this an ideal volume for those who like to think deeply as well as broadly.Reviewed from a copy made available by the publisher via NetGalley.

My conception of a slow cooker repast is one that I can put together in the morning and come back 8 or so hours later to a plenarily cooked repast. Most of the recipes in this cookbook call for 4 hour cook times. I suppose I could utilize the recipes on weekends when I run errands...

I cannot believe how many recipes in this cookbook are completely awesome. It is rare that my family uses more than a handful of recipes in a single book. We've had the book for a month, we've tried at least 15 recipes, and we've bookmarked at least 10 to keep in regular rotation. Sure, they're not all slow cooker, but who cares? A reliable cookbook can be hard to find and this one is a complete winner.

I feel good knowing I’m eating healthy and she has such good suggestions to make weeknight meals easier. Recipes are all simple enough to follow, but never boring on the palette.

I had to make an exception for this cookbook since I rarely leave reviews here on Amazon. If I could summarize this cookbook into one single word – it would be "unbelievable". Somehow I picked it out of all the so-called healthy cookbooks and decided to give it a try. I can't say this cookbook is beautifully presented but something in it has drawn my attention, and now I can tell that this cookbook is well-made mainly thanks to the variety of recipe it is offering. I can't answer for all the two hundred and fifty recipes, but I can speak for some in particular, such as Beef Curry, Lamb Stew, Moroccan Eggplant Mash.

Easy cookbook for everyday choices those who follow ketogenic diet need to make. It is believed that keto can heal your body – I don’t know about that but I’m going to find out since all the meals I’ve been cooking recently fall under this diet category. We are what we eat – that’s for sure, and if your conscience condemns you considering all the foods you prepare or buy and consume – this is the time to rethink the food choices you’re addicted to.

Some people might find the excessive amount of pork and seafood in here, just as I did. I substitute all the ingredients I find unacceptable and change the recipes to my liking – the outcome is great every time. There are no meal plans in here, but you can make them yourself, doing some really amazing stuff thanks to the variety of ideas offered in this cookbook. Every meal I’ve made from the cookbook has been tasty – just don’t try your first recipe on a morning before work because you may find the meal not done before you have to leave. Some of these recipes need extra attention and prep-time to make them just right.

About the Author

Lorry Lutz and her husband spent twenty-two years in South Africa working with African youth suffering under Apartheid. Later, as part of the AD2000 Movement, she coordinated an international network of women leaders. Lorry earned an MA at Wheaton Graduate School. This is a fascinating Historical book - Based on true facts. This is not a romance about a queen's daughters. Instead this is about many things but also about how the GB soldiers were provided young girls in India for their pleasure. But there is only talk of how these girls are amused with not talking of sex acts - but you can figure very easily what they went through.AND these things did happen. There are other countries also told about in this book, including China town, CA - areas that these 2 women traveled as they tried to spread the word of Jesus Christ as well as trying to help those bought & sold like the young girls in India.---- Being a Christian, I also learned so much about how God really feels about women. The differences in the Hebrew words and how they are translated into English - is surprising.

I was thrilled with the release of The Queen's Daughters a few weeks ago and couldn't wait to get my hands on a copy after having read Lorry's previous book (Daughters of Deliverance). Having become challenged with the courage and conviction of Dr. Katherine Bushnell I was eager to read more of her work on behalf of young girls caught in the sex trafficking trap. This book captivated me as I followed her travels throughout the world to fight for these women. Dr. Bushnell's life will challenge you to consider how God may want to use you. Lorry has done a great job of making history come alive.

I looked forward to this sequel after reading Daughters of Deliverance and was pleasantly surprised to find this was even better than the first book. I felt that I was beside Katherine Bushnell on her worldwide travels and exciting rescues. I like historical novels like this because of the background information about life in those days. I read this book in 2 days because I couldn't wait to see what happened next. What a life Katherine led! Thanks Lorry Lutz for bringing us her story in vivid detail!

Did not know that there was an effort to try to close down the brothels used by English army personnel. Sex trafficking seems to be a problem from a century ago, until today. Well written historical fiction that flows like a novel. Research efforts are noted. Hard to read and realize that the same problems exist.

An astonishing story told of a remarkable woman who went where even devils feared to tread to rescue girls who were bought and sold for pleasure. A history of scope and danger most people have never heard tied to our own sufferage movement in America. A must read.

If only more of us lived what Busnell believed, that the Kingdom of Heaven is worth living for ... even dying for, if required. A challenging life, a fascinating read, and a grateful reader.

The story is beautifully written. The subject of white slave trade is as active today as it was when Catherine Bushnell was fighting against it in the 1800's. The careful research comes through vividly.

Interesting and inspirational. A fascinating story of the woman who really made a difference.

This wasn’t what I was expecting. The pages look like they were photocopied. The quality isn’t anywhere near as nice as other similar books. I ended up returning it. You could print your own workbook pages for less and have the same quality.

Great activity book my grandson loves it.

I like the book but the one I received did not have the numbers in order. 10 came before 8 and 9.I'm assuming it was bounded incorrectly.

My toddler (2.5) loves this activity book. She can color the page she’s learning and she loves the sea animals

I'm not sure what I expected, maybe more with color and shapes. There was a couple pages of multiplication which is over my preschooler's head.

I consider myself a beginner even though I've been involved with photography for over 30 yrs.I'm one of those people you would call a natural;able to get good and sometimes great resultswithout having a clue of the technical aspects of photography. A few years ago I got myself a pentax K10D then a K20. Things went pretty well. Then I bought the pentax K-5. I actually got good photos with all three cameras as Pentax don't make no junk. As the cameras got more technically advanced (from the k10 to the k5) my knowledge of photography stayed pretty stagnant. Out of frustration I was determined to study and learn about photography so I could once and for all take my camera off the auto mode setting (green mode) and finally become a real photographer. Enter the Magic Lantern K7 Magic guide. Through research I discovered the K5 and the K7 are identical except for a few very minor differences.Operationally they are virtually the same camera. In just 2 to 3 says from studying the Magic Lantern K7 guide with camera in hand I was able to make great strides in learning and understanding how my K5 works and operate. In just a few short days I have become a much better photographer just buy understanding my Pentax K5 on a much deeper level. The Magic Lantern Guide made the difference. Some people might not like the repetitive nature of the book but it worked quite well for me. Each time around the author builds on the knowledge presented before. I recommend this book for learning the Pentax K5 mainly because there really isn't anything else out there for the K5. Pentax has made an exceptional camera in the K5 as well as theK7. If you need this book get this book. You won't be sorry.

I don't get the raving reviews. This book is nothing special. I bought it after upgrading to the K7, expecting to find it packed with *specific* tips and suggestions about the camera... "the best ISO is..." or "it really struggles with [issue] and you can mitigate that by doing [something unusual]," maybe.Instead, it's a verbose instruction manual that -really- reads like a cut-and-paste generated by a macro. You know, like it was pumped out by a template with mail-merge fields ready for whenever another model comes out: "The [model] by [manufacturer] has settings for shutter speed and aperture. 'Shutter speed' is...." This company must be way high up the list of "money made per effort expended" when it comes to publishing!It's fine if you've never read anything about photography. It's fine if you need something that uses color pictures and wayyyy too many words to re-explain what the manual already contains. But I won't be buying another copy with my next camera upgrade, and mostly regret buying this one.

After I opted to purchase the Pentax K-7 to be my first DSLR, I knew I needed more than the manual that comes with it as there are so many more features than I've had in any camera. I opted for this book after thorough research, including a review from a Photography professor on Amazon who gave it a huge thumbs up.It's so helpful to see color images over black and white. The book is well-written and definitely works WITH the manual. Burian does an excellent job of working with obvious as well as more obscure, but mighty, features built into my camera. Through this book, photographers of all levels can improve their skill levels.

When I bought my new K7, I was shocked to discover all of the features and options the camera had. Not like the old film cameras that's for sure! The owners manual briefly covered these features but left many things unexplained and offered no help for the amateur. This book filled the gaps, it explained how to use my camera in much greater detail. However, this book is not an instruction into photographic technique and does not offer any "secrets' that the pros use. For that I would recommend other books. Unfortunately when I upgraded to the K5 they had no magic lantern guide for that camera and they say they will not make one either. So, I kept this copy. The cameras are so similar that they probably don't need a different version, and considering the speed at which things change nowadays Pentax probably won't be making the K5 for much longer anyway.

Having upgraded from an older Pentax DSLR (*ist D), I struggled at first to come to terms with the new features on the K-7 (and there are a lot!). The approach that this book takes in familiarizing you with all of the cameras features is great, starting out with an easy 10 step guide to shooting then gradually introducing the reader to more advanced features. It's very well laid out and engaging, and I quickly found a lot of short cuts and features that I had missed initially or glossed over when I read the Pentax guide supplied with the camera. I would strongly recommend this book to anyone upgrading to the K-7 or just getting into the hobby.
