I consider myself a beginner even though I've been involved with photography for over 30 yrs.I'm one of those people you would call a natural;able to get good and sometimes great resultswithout having a clue of the technical aspects of photography. A few years ago I got myself a pentax K10D then a K20. Things went pretty well. Then I bought the pentax K-5. I actually got good photos with all three cameras as Pentax don't make no junk. As the cameras got more technically advanced (from the k10 to the k5) my knowledge of photography stayed pretty stagnant. Out of frustration I was determined to study and learn about photography so I could once and for all take my camera off the auto mode setting (green mode) and finally become a real photographer. Enter the Magic Lantern K7 Magic guide. Through research I discovered the K5 and the K7 are identical except for a few very minor differences.Operationally they are virtually the same camera. In just 2 to 3 says from studying the Magic Lantern K7 guide with camera in hand I was able to make great strides in learning and understanding how my K5 works and operate. In just a few short days I have become a much better photographer just buy understanding my Pentax K5 on a much deeper level. The Magic Lantern Guide made the difference. Some people might not like the repetitive nature of the book but it worked quite well for me. Each time around the author builds on the knowledge presented before. I recommend this book for learning the Pentax K5 mainly because there really isn't anything else out there for the K5. Pentax has made an exceptional camera in the K5 as well as theK7. If you need this book get this book. You won't be sorry.

I don't get the raving reviews. This book is nothing special. I bought it after upgrading to the K7, expecting to find it packed with *specific* tips and suggestions about the camera... "the best ISO is..." or "it really struggles with [issue] and you can mitigate that by doing [something unusual]," maybe.Instead, it's a verbose instruction manual that -really- reads like a cut-and-paste generated by a macro. You know, like it was pumped out by a template with mail-merge fields ready for whenever another model comes out: "The [model] by [manufacturer] has settings for shutter speed and aperture. 'Shutter speed' is...." This company must be way high up the list of "money made per effort expended" when it comes to publishing!It's fine if you've never read anything about photography. It's fine if you need something that uses color pictures and wayyyy too many words to re-explain what the manual already contains. But I won't be buying another copy with my next camera upgrade, and mostly regret buying this one.

After I opted to purchase the Pentax K-7 to be my first DSLR, I knew I needed more than the manual that comes with it as there are so many more features than I've had in any camera. I opted for this book after thorough research, including a review from a Photography professor on Amazon who gave it a huge thumbs up.It's so helpful to see color images over black and white. The book is well-written and definitely works WITH the manual. Burian does an excellent job of working with obvious as well as more obscure, but mighty, features built into my camera. Through this book, photographers of all levels can improve their skill levels.

When I bought my new K7, I was shocked to discover all of the features and options the camera had. Not like the old film cameras that's for sure! The owners manual briefly covered these features but left many things unexplained and offered no help for the amateur. This book filled the gaps, it explained how to use my camera in much greater detail. However, this book is not an instruction into photographic technique and does not offer any "secrets' that the pros use. For that I would recommend other books. Unfortunately when I upgraded to the K5 they had no magic lantern guide for that camera and they say they will not make one either. So, I kept this copy. The cameras are so similar that they probably don't need a different version, and considering the speed at which things change nowadays Pentax probably won't be making the K5 for much longer anyway.

Having upgraded from an older Pentax DSLR (*ist D), I struggled at first to come to terms with the new features on the K-7 (and there are a lot!). The approach that this book takes in familiarizing you with all of the cameras features is great, starting out with an easy 10 step guide to shooting then gradually introducing the reader to more advanced features. It's very well laid out and engaging, and I quickly found a lot of short cuts and features that I had missed initially or glossed over when I read the Pentax guide supplied with the camera. I would strongly recommend this book to anyone upgrading to the K-7 or just getting into the hobby.

Deborah Diesen tells a magical, little tale of a gloomy fish would just needs to accept love into his heart. The ending of this story is one of the most adorable endings to a children's book that I have ever read. It's a clever tale that was written in a way that entices the reader to the very end. My four-year-old wanted this book essentially because of the illustration of the Pout-Pout Fish on the front. We ordinarily do not purchase books we have not ever previewed from the library or some other source. I was leery to buy the book because there was no way of telling whether or not my little boy would like it. However, I'm so glad that The Pout-Pout Fish now sits on the shelf of our book collection. The copy we ordered came with a CD that contains a reading of this book. It's easy for my four-year-old son to follow along with the book and CD because a chiming sound is made when the page needs to be turned. If you do not yet own this book, you and your children are truly missing out.

We first heard of this book at B&N storytime. My son fell in love with it, and I started reciting it to him until we got the book. I couldn't decide whether to get the hardcover or paperback, but we decided on the paperback because it included the CD. Had there been a board book option without a CD, we would have gotten that. Board books are more durable. That being said, our 12-month-old promptly removed a couple of the pages from the book. We had to hide the book both because he wanted us to read it non-stop and because he was a little too rough with it. The CD is great and is narrated by Alexander Gould, the voice of Nemo in Finding Nemo. There are two tracks: one reading straight through and one that features bubble sounds at each page turn so you can read along with the book. My son will sit still, even without the book, and listen to the tracks over and over.

Spectacularly fun book! My daughter (age 3) loves this book. Whenever she gets a little cranky, I can reference the book by whispering "are you a pout-pout fish?" She erupts with laughter and we start kissing. Her favorite bedtime ritual is to whisper to mommy "you're a pout-pout fish" to which I respond with a ton of kisses. The book is about a mopey fish with a frown. He believes there's nothing he can do about his pout. Sea creature friends try to inspire him to stop spreading the "dreary-wearies all over the place." At the end of the book, a fish that no other creature knows, sees the pouting fish - who is now laying upside down in exasperation - and only sees a kissy pucker. The fish swoops in and kisses his pout. Shocked, the pout-pout fish finally sees that his pout was really a kiss-kiss face and now he spreads the "cheery-cheeries all over the place." Smooch, smooch, smooch! Fun, quick, nicely illustrated and a good message.

I just adore this book. Out of all of our books, it is up there at the top of my favorites list. If your kids like Llama Llama, The Tickle Monster, the Little Blue Truck, or Snowmen at Night they will LOVE the Pout Pout Fish. Each fish that tries to talk Mr. Fish (the Pout Pout fish) about his frown says the cutest little rhyming verse. I love the rhythmic flow of the wording and the alliteration. The book is so cute read aloud with different voices for the fish that speak to Mr. Fish. And my daughter loves the "Blub, bluuub, bluuuuuuub" part because I make my voice really deep for Mr. Fish. The illustrations are beautiful, too. And the ending is just too cute! One of my BEST "blind" Amazon book purchases.

I absolutely love the Pout-Pout Fish and so does my son (4)! We bought the book & cd set. I wish Alexander Gould read all of my son's books. He has the perfect voice and tone for children's books! The story is so cute. My son loves to repeat Blub, Bluuub, Bluuuuuuub.As for other reviewers commenting on the vocabulary - shouldn't we expose our children to new words? Children by nature are inquisitive and will ask what a word means when they hear it. How boring would storytime be if all the words were limited one and two syllables?The Pout-Pout Fish is definitely the new favorite in our house!

I bought this book for my PreK class and it is a huge hit! With colorful, whimsical drawings, great rythmn and repeating rhymes, it really gets the kids attention. The narration is good and after only one reading, my students were requesting the book by name and attempting to repeat the rhyming stanzas. The book fits nicely into an emotions or feelings theme and can also be used for friendship and ocean themes, so it is quite versatile for a curriculum based early childhood program as well as a fun book to read with your child at home.

My two 5yr olds just adore this book, and listening to it on cd is a huge bonus. However - the book binding glue has dried out and the pages are falling out of the book! We treat our books very nicely, and even as I'm trying to figure out how to tape the pages back in more are falling out just by me handling the book. Such a disappointment :( I hope ours is the only one like this, the book itself is just awesome and we can't wait to find the sequel!!!

R.D. Laing, one of the best-known psychiatrists of modern times, was born in Glasgow in 1927 and graduated from Glasgow University as a doctor of medicine. In the 1960's he developed the argument that there may be a benefit in allowing acute mental and emotional turmoil in depth to go on and have its way, and that the outcome of such turmoil could have a positive value. He was the first to put such a stand to the test by establishing, with others, residences where persons could live and be free to let happen what will when the acute psychosis is given free rein, or where, at the very least, they receive no treatment they do not want. This work with the Philadelphia Association since 1964, together with his focus on disturbed and disturbing types of interaction in institutions, groups and families, has been both influential and continually controversial.R.D. This is an excellent and entertaining book. You don't have to be a schizophrenic or psychology researcher to find value within its pages. I randomly ordered this book a few years ago - having never heard of Laing and having never read anything in this genera - and it is now one of my favorite books that I have ever read. Highly recommended for anyone with even the slightest interest. Laing takes case studies of an extremely complex phenomenon - the divided self- and breaks it down logically to such an extent that even comatose schizophrenia becomes completely understandable

Laing made a few nice points about the inner experience of those experiencing a schizoid process. But ultimately the points are lost in vast swaths of philosophical blathering so vague and abstract that (as is the case with other existentialists; I’m thinking of Kierkegaard) the reader is free to project almost any meaning they want on to the text. You feel like you’re reading something profoundly important and it’s all going to come together in the next few pages. But you keep turning the pages and the ‘punchline’ never comes. 100 pages later you start to feel like you want your money and time back. But it’s too late....And that’s when you suddenly get it. Laing is a schizoid, and reading the book is a metaphor for being in process with a schizoid personality. Tons of heavy and seemingly profound content, all of it a ‘smoke screen’ to hide the true (and ultimately empty) character of the book. Whoever Laing eventually became in the time he had on this earth, at 28 (the age he was when he wrote “The Divided Self”) he wasn’t yet a fully formed psychologist. What he probably was, was a compassionate young man with an understanding that sanity and insanity are not a dichotomy but a long, treacherous and human path that should be recognizable to anyone who as ever undertaken the human journey.

It is a very interesting book, and also helps to understand yourself (even if you are not a schizoid person). Some findings of the author apply more or less to everyone. It is also easy to read.

This should be mandatory reading for Psychology majors, and anyone who wants to work in the mental health field.On one hand, this is a great book about schizophrenics and their existential issues.On the other hand, everything in this book also applies to non-psychotic people, and THIS is why this book is so far ahead of others in its field, even for as old as it is. It's too bad not many people read it anymore.

Laing uses poetic language with great power of clinical penetration and wisdom.

I've tried making low carb bread before but it came out flat and tasted weird. I didn't like it all. I think I just didn't have the right recipes though because I've made 6 of the recipes in this book and every one of them came out perfect. I'm excited about the possibilities this means for following a low carb diet without sacrificing sandwiches, hamburgers, and so many of my other favorite foods.

It isn't just loaves of bread, but also flat breads, pretzels, buns, and snacks. For some reason I always though baking bread was difficult but it is actually easier than most types of cooking. This book showed me everything I needed to get started baking and has a bunch of great recipes. I recommend it to anyone who wants to eat more low carb baked goods.

Excellent Photos and a Variety of Desserts, something for everybody. Easy to following recipes for All Cooks or Novices!I like how the book is well laid out with the introduction, simple Keto diet guidelines, information about ingredients and then the recipes.

I found the book informative and concise. However, there are a few mistakes. For example there are 16 oz in a pound, not 15. Also there are quite a few grammatical errors. The book could use a good once over by an editor.

This book was $9.99 and it's mostly all cracker recipes not breads. Don't waste your money!!

I track everything I eat and am meticulous about tracking my net carbs. The recipes in this book seemed too good to be true but they are working for me: I can eat sandwiches and burgers again and still stay in ketosis. Amazing! I would give this book 10 stars if I could, I feel like I have a whole new world open to me again.

Try not to take a pass on these stunning recipes that your family will love and that will improve you feel more advantageous and than you have in years!Really like bread sticks recipes and at the end measurement conversion table is very helpful.Enjoy this read ,suggested..!

Her richly developed characters are flawed, fallible, and the reader cannot help but fall in love with them. Her motifs are multilayered and allusive. With this being said, her books are always a fabulous treat.Spinning Silver is a story about value and love and family, and how much we are willing to trade, or sacrifice, for what we need, or who we love. An embroidered apron may earn a kopek in the market or it can be traded for a loaf of bread and a bottle of cooking oil. An unwed virgin daughter, a priceless commodity, can be traded away in marriage by her farmer father for a pig. A duke's daughter is worthy of trade for a chest of gold, or a political alliance. But, saving your people, your family, you and yours, is equal to the price of your soul.Although there are six narratives in this story, the 3 strongest are the moneylender Miryem; Wanda, the farmer's daughter; and Irina, the daughter of the duke. When a fourth was added about one-third of the way through the book it was a little jarring, but this turned out to be an important voice. The last two voices expose parts of the story for the readers what the others cannot. Thankfully the writer has an icon representing each voice at the beginning of their narrative otherwise it would be confusing.Miryem wants to provide and protect her family and so becomes what her father could not: a moneylender that collects. She is clever and resourceful and with tenacity and a strength that developed after years of second citizen treatment because her family is Jewish, Miryem tells the villagers she expects them to pay their debts. Some begrudgingly pay a few pennies at a time or with food or household goods; the farmer gives Miryem his daughter, Wanda, to work as an indentured servant until his drinking and gambling debt is paid off. This deal creates a strong relationship and in turn is the basis of the one of the most touching storylines in the book.Proud of her ability to provide for her family, Miryem makes a prideful boast that is overheard by the Staryk, magical wintry creatures that control the forest lands, raid the villages and coat the land with snow every season. To protect her family, she unwillingly makes a deal with the Staryk king and agrees to an impossible task.To Irina's father, the duke, she has little value; she is not beautiful enough to catch a wealthy husband nor is she a son who can carry on his name. A fortuitous meeting between the duke and Miryem changes all that. Irina becomes her father's pawn to win the tsar. But it also brings out an ancient and deadly power. To fight this, another bargain is struck, a formidable bargain.Throughout the book there is the beauty of the Staryk's frozen kingdom, a glass mountain, a Jewish wedding under the forest sky, a family that finds a love they never knew, reindeer with fangs, a tree that listens, mirrors that bring sanctuary, a crown that gives its wearer beauty and power, silver that becomes gold, three questions, hidden names, and a magic house; each brings its own value, its own cost, its own sacrifice.And that ending.This is an incredible book with a gorgeous cover that I highly recommend. Like Novik's other masterpiece, Uprooted, it is a standalone and you do not need to read her other works. But, you would be missing out if you didn't.

SPINNING SILVER: A NOVEL is not my usual type of read. I read mostly hard SF, horror and some fantasy (Neil Gaiman, for instance). I had never heard of Naomi Novik, the author before, but the description that I read in a recent review in Locus (a Science Fiction/Fantasy periodical) made me cough up the $13 bucks and give it a try. Boy am I glad I did.SPINNING SILVER is absolutely outstanding in every way. Totally original (no, it's not a retelling of Rumpelstiltskin, regardless of what you might see elsewhere), extremely well-written, fascinating and worth every penny that I paid. It is written in such a way that it is suitable for everyone from children to YA to adults. No sex, no profanity (I can't remember the last time I read a G-rated novel) but gripping and thrilling nonetheless.The story is set in a fictional word meant to evoke images of Russia and is told from the viewpoints of several different main characters. Miryem, the daughter of a Jewish moneylender whose family is relatively poor because her father is too nice to collect debts owed him, Wanda, the daughter of a loathsome drunk who beats her who goes to work for Miryem's family to pay off her father's drinking debt and her younger brothers, Sergey and Stepon, Irina, daughter of a minor noble who hopes to marry Irina off to the Tsar, and Magreta, Irina's lifelong nurse. All live in a land locked in a brutal winter that is somehow maintained by the mysterious Staryk.Each segment of each chapter alternates as a first person description of events among those 5 main characters. It was a bit disconcerting at first when the reader is not expecting the narrator to change constantly and before we get to know the different personalities. But Novik is a clever writer that gives everyone a distinct and and different voice so before very long, the constant point of view alternation becomes second nature.Unlike my usual reviews, I am not going to even attempt to summarize plot more than the description of the principals above. It's too complex (but easy to follow because of Novik's great writing chops) and I wouldn't want to spoil any of the many twists and turns. Suffice it to say that it is a tale of love and magic an one just has to read it to understand.Very Highly Recommended.JM Tepper

This book sets out to serve as a text for those new to deep learning and it does just that. For those removed from research, the mathematics of other introductory texts can be a bit distracting. This text takes a refreshing step back to show what you might see in the research as code. It runs the gamut from training your own models from scratch to transfer learning in the course of a few hundred pages -- what a feat!As an editorial note, I find the bitly notes a bit noisy -- I might have used the referent links in their place, but no big gripe.Bravo, Delip and Brian!

Half of the book goes over basics. The book would be worth it at $30. Pretty disappointed, I thought there would be more in depth coverage of NLP topics.This book might be more useful for newcomers.

An awesome book to dive into your NLP and deep learning journey with PyTorch. Delip and Brian have done a great job in explaining NLP concepts clearly and demonstrating them in code in each chapter to solve practical NLP tasks.Disclaimer: I was one of the technical reviewer of the book =)

I generally do not learn about NLP using books. I generally read papers, blogposts, or directly dive into github repositories. As someone pointed out in a previous comment, this book is not a bible 1000 pages book for NLP.. If you're looking for a comprehensive book covering all machine learning and NLP this is not the place.Why did I love this book? When you learn using blogposts or github pages, there are a lot of unsaid things, a lot of stuffs that are actually hidden under the hood, whether the author does not take time to explain, or whether the author does not know himself about the details. This book establishes a very solid foundation for deep NLP. It explains all the basics usage of Pytorch, and how to build growing building blocks. It covers all the necessary to use any kind of embeddings, run multi-task settings, experiment with custom sequence-to-sequence models etc...After reading this book, I felt confident that I could build my own Allennlp / Fast.ai / PyText / Flair library, which is a very exciting perspective after reading a book!Thank you!
